What began as a simple drawing by Year 6 pupils has been transformed into a design that will be professionally printed and displayed in every classroom across the infant and junior school settings.
The six creatives, who are from years 3-6, were surprised by the professionally designed posters that were inspired by their ideas; they only expected the drawings to be on display on a school notice board.
Karen Denton, Head of School at Penbridge Junior, says it was a joy to catch the children by surprise and witness their delight.
She said: "I was impressed by the quality of the drawings that were presented to me back in September, when we had become Penbridge School. The activity was focused on exploring our values and how they play an essential role in encouraging our children to be their best selves.
"As a school, we decided to put some of the best designs forward and approached the Trust to turn them into something amazing, and that’s exactly what happened."
There are six values posters that have been created, with each value being displayed prominently in classrooms in the coming weeks.
The values are: Show Respect, Be Kind, Aim High, Be Resilient, Be Independent, and Work Well with Others.
Mrs. Denton continued: "The children from all year groups will be looking at these posters and thinking about our school values for years to come. This project has offered a firm lesson in leaving a legacy, and that’s what our six young designers will do – they will leave a legacy through their posters."
The children’s colourful designs inspired graphic designers from Thinking Creative, the Thinking Schools Academy Trust’s marketing and communications service, to produce the posters you see today.
John Bishop, Brand and Design Manager at Thinking Creative, says he was amazed at the talent which the children showed in their art.
He said: "Our Thinking Creative team work on a vast number of design projects for our schools, and I was in amazement at the level of creativity that the pupils had put into their designs to represent their school's values.
"The amount of time that must have been spent on the designs and the intricate detail and thought was outstanding! 'Aim High' is exactly what they did, when they turned their imaginations into reality on the page. Who knows, with talent like that, they could be future members of our creative team."
