Children from both Penbridge Infant and Junior brought food into school to give to The Roberts Centre, which helps children, families, young people and vulnerable adults from across Portsmouth through a variety of services.
Each year group had an assembly where the children brought their food and had a chance to be thankful and express their gratitude towards people’s generosity.
They welcomed Father Bob from St Mary’s Church in Fratton to their assemblies to talk about the importance of supporting the citywide harvest theme.
Karen Denton, Head of School at Penbridge Junior, said it was wonderful to see children from both schools coming together for this good cause.
She said: “Both schools are proud to support The Roberts Centre and once again our parents and families have been generous in bringing donations of food to support those in our local community who are in need. In assembly, our Year 4 children were encouraged to think about the reasons why it’s sometimes more difficult for people all over the world and in our community to get food.
"They were reminded that whatever the reason may be, sometimes people need help to be able to have enough food, so that is why at Harvest time, as well as saying thank you for our food we donate food to The Roberts Centre to help other people have the food that they need.”
